"It’s great that we can offer such a wide range of Forest Stewardship Council certified furniture." Mark Hobson, Products and Supply Chain Compliance Manager

What we did

Over 91% of our wood and paper products are sourced from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), or other certified or known and legal sources. This represents over 1.4 million m3 of wood. 77% of Homebase wood and paper products are FSC certified. Both Argos and Homebase sell garden and kitchen furniture, sheds , BBQ charcoal and shoe racks – all FSC certified.

Why we did it

As one of the UK's leading furniture retailers*, we have a duty to source responsibly. According to our research, the responsible sourcing of timber and paper products is one of the top three environmental and ethical priorities for our customers. According to the FSC:

  • 1.65 billion people depend on forests for their livelihoods
  • 70% of the Earth’s land animals and plants live in forests
  • If deforestation continues at its current rate, the world’s forests will disappear within 100 years

How we did it

We only select wood and paper based products that comply with our timber policy. Our trading teams work with suppliers to improve the percentage of wood that comes from certified forests and all relevant data is entered on a ‘timber tracker’ that helps us monitor progress.
